PyCon Mozambique PyCon MZ Maputo 2027

Code of conduct

PyCon Mozambique 2027 is an event of the Python Mozambique Community. This code applies to organisers, speakers, workshop facilitators, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, and attendees.

Our community

The Python community in Mozambique is made up of people with different skills, backgrounds, and experience. These differences are how the community grows. We ask everyone at the conference to:

  • Be open to collaboration.
  • Focus on what is best for the community.
  • Acknowledge the time and effort of volunteers, and be considerate when commenting on someone else's work.
  • Respect differing viewpoints and experiences. Constructive comments help the community improve.
  • Show empathy, including when a view is not your own.
  • Be considerate and respectful of other people's contributions and needs.
  • Accept constructive criticism. Disagreement, raised with courtesy, can lead to a better outcome.
  • Use welcoming and inclusive language.

Our standards

Everyone has the right to have their identity respected. Participation in PyCon Mozambique 2027 should be free from harassment, regardless of age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, religion (or lack thereof), education, or socio-economic status.

Inappropriate behaviour

Unacceptable behaviour includes:

  • Harassment in any form.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
  • Invasive recording or photography, including logging online activity or taking screenshots in order to harass someone.
  • Publishing someone else's private information, such as a physical address, phone number, or email address, without their explicit permission.
  • Violent threats or language directed at another person.
  • Inciting violence or harassment, including encouraging a person to harm themselves.
  • Creating extra accounts in order to harass someone or to get around a ban.
  • Sexual language or imagery in talks or in any conference space.
  • Insults, put-downs, or jokes based on stereotypes, that exclude people, or that hold them up for ridicule.
  • Offensive comments related to personal characteristics.
  • Excessive swearing.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention or advances.
  • Unwelcome physical contact, including simulated contact in text (for example "hug" or "backrub") without consent or after being asked to stop.
  • A pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as assuming an intimacy that was not offered.
  • Sustained disruption of a talk, discussion, or other conference activity.
  • Continuing one-to-one communication after being asked to stop.
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the behaviour above.
  • Any other conduct that is inappropriate for a professional audience of people from many backgrounds.

Anyone asked to stop inappropriate behaviour is expected to comply immediately.

Weapons

Weapons are not allowed at in-person PyCon Mozambique 2027 events, consistent with the venue's own rules. This includes explosives (including fireworks), firearms, large knives, and any other item used to injure someone. A person seen with such an item will be asked to leave immediately, and may return only without it.

Where this applies

This code covers talks, tutorials, workshops, sprints, meals, parties, and other social events tied to the conference. It covers groups created for the event, and interactions on the conference's official accounts, including posts about the conference on social media.

It applies in conference spaces and in public spaces when someone is representing PyCon Mozambique or the Python Mozambique Community.

The community's everyday spaces, such as the general WhatsApp group and the community repositories, stay under the Python Mozambique Community code of conduct.

Consequences

If someone violates this code, the organising team may warn them, remove them from a session, or expel them from the conference with no refund.

Reporting

If you believe someone is violating this code, or you have another concern, contact the organising team:

The team reads the report and, if needed, speaks with the people involved separately. It decides what to do and tells the person who reported, without publishing the case. Reports are handled as confidentially as possible.

If you want someone to accompany you out of the room, say so in the report. If the report is about someone on the organising team, say so in the email so that another organiser reads it.
